"Borrowed, Modulated, Enriched"

What connects Chile to Palau? Do we live on land or navigate around an ocean? Is our cultural border a demarcation or a connection? Did sounds of the west inspire the east or the other way around?

Human life emerges from these deep explorations and echoes in various forms, including music. One such exploration was carried out by Lou Harrison who believed that there is a Pacific Sound that connects West Coast America with other cultures and countries along the Pacific Ocean. Thingamajigs, inspired by this belief, brought together artists and performers from different parts of the Pacific Rim on a concert stage, and created The Pacific Exchange in 2005.

Hear one of the featured artists - Phil Dadson of New Zealand, talk about the different cultures and Pacific values that influenced his work, which you can see on August 17.
